I cannot reach Settings
Last updated: August 27, 2026
Settings is available to administrators only. If you cannot see it, or you can see it and get a permission message, this article explains why and what to do.
Why you cannot see it
Govflo's sidebar only shows what your role can reach. If Settings is not in your sidebar, your role does not hold the Admin Settings permission.
That is the normal arrangement, not a fault. Most staff hold the member role, which covers the daily job: the queue, documents, requesters and approvals, but not agency configuration. The split is deliberate, because configuration changes affect everyone at once while casework affects one request.
What to ask for, and what to ask for instead
Before asking for administrator access, check whether you actually need it. Most requests for Settings turn out to be one specific change, and someone who already has access can make it in a minute.
If you need a status that does not exist, a new team, a canned response or a template, ask an administrator to add it. If you need Settings routinely, ask for the role.
Administrator should be granted conservatively, because Settings changes take effect immediately across the whole agency and there is no draft state.
If you have the role and still cannot reach an area
Some areas need more than a role permission. They are gated twice: by the permission on your role, and by a tenant-level setting with no self-service screen.
If a permission has been switched on for your role and the area still does not appear, that second gate is why. More permission changes will not fix it. Raise it with your Govflo contact.
The safeguard you may run into
At least one role must always keep the ability to manage settings. If a change would leave nobody able to administer the agency, Govflo refuses it.
So if you are trying to remove administrator access from a role and the product will not let you, that is the safeguard. Grant it elsewhere first.
